Frequently asked questions about the installation and use of Executive Accounting.

1. Does Executive Accounting work with Windows Vista? - Top

Yes, it does, but you must first follow the setup steps listed below.

After installing Executive Accounting you will need to open the Program Compatibility Wizard.

To do so click on the Start button in the lower left corner of your Windows desktop.

Then click on Computer.

Then double click on Drive C.

Then double click on Program Files. In Program Files you will need to double click on the Clarisys folder. In the Clarisys folder you should see an Executive folder, double click on the Executive folder. Double click on the bin folder and you will finally get to the files that you need.

In the bin folder, scroll down until you find the file called "ExecWin", right click on that file and go to Properties.

In Properties select the Compatibility tab and check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for :" Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and then check the bottom option "Run this program as administrator "

As a final step click on Apply then OK.

Executive Accounting will now function with Windows Vista.

2. I am getting the ERROR - "Class not registered. Please reboot your machine for software to run correctly." I've rebooted and I am still getting this error. What do I do now? - Top

To correct this problem you will need to download and run a small program called RegClass.exe.

To download the program go to the following link, www.clarisys.ca/software/RegClass.exe

Once you've downloaded and saved the file double-click on the file name to run the program.

4. Is Executive compatible with Windows XP Pro? - Top

If you set-up the software to run as a Windows NT compatible application and you set the appropriate permissions it will run smoothly.

To set the compatibility right-click on the Executive icon on the desktop and then click on Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and choose the Windows NT compatible feature.

To set the permissions you will need to configure the Clarisys folder in both the Registry and Windows Explorer.

Registry:
1. Start REGEDT32.EXE from the Start menu's Run option.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLARISYS.
3. Select the Permissions menu option.
4. Select the user from the list of users.
5. Click the Full Control option from the list.

Windows Explorer:
1. Start Windows Explorer.
2. Go to the directory in which you installed the software (usually it is C:\Program Files\Clarisys).
3. Right click on the Clarisys folder.
4. Select the Properties option.
5. Click on Security
6. Select the user from the list of users.
7. Select the Full Control option from the list.


If you encounter problems printing invoices, statements or reports:
1) Go to Start -> Settings -> Printers.
2) Right-click on the printer and select Properties.
3) Click on Paper.
4) Select Custom as the paper size.
5) Double-click on Custom and set the size at Width = 850 and Length = 1100, the unit should be 0.01 inches.

5. Is Executive compatible with Windows XP Home? - Top

6. How do I delete a line in the invoice/order entry option? - Top

Position the cursor on the line you want to remove and press on the "CTRL" and
"DEL" keys of the keyboard.

7. How do I save and restore my data? - Top

You can use any backup utility to save and restore your data. By default, Executive is installed in C:\Program files\Clarisys\executive

The programs are in the sub-directory "bin"
The data for company 1 are in the sub-directory "data1"
The data for company 2 are in the sub-directory "data2"
The data for company 3 are in the sub-directory "data3"
and so on...

8. Why, when adding a transaction using the general journal entries option the system displays a "transaction is out of balance" message? - Top

Use the Tab key on your keyboard to create more lines. The system will not allow you to enter a one-line transaction. The debits must equal the credits.

9. The system will not allow me to print, why? - Top

If you are using an ink jet or a laser printer you will have to go to the printer manufacturer's website and download the latest printer driver.

If you are using a dot matrix printer:
1) Go to Start -> Settings -> Printers.
2) Right-click on the printer and select Properties.
3) Click on Paper.
4) Select Custom as the paper size.
5) Double-click on Custom and set the size at Width = 850 and Length = 1100, the unit should be 0.01 inches.

10. How do I create a supplier? - Top

1. Go to Accounts Payable -> Edit -> Maintenance of suppliers.
2. Click on the plus sign (+) of the navigator bar. You must fill out the information in the General and Control information tabs before accepting the entries.
3. Click on the check mark to accept your entries.

11. How do I create a client? - Top

1. Go to Accounts Receivable -> Edit -> Maintenance of clients.
2. Click on the plus sign (+) of the navigator bar. You must fill out the information in the General and Control information tabs before accepting the entries.

12. Can the system be modified to handle US sales taxes? - Top

Yes, it can.
1. Go to System manager -> Edit -> Maintenance of parameters.
2. On the General Information tab select Other as the Tax System.
3. Go to the Tax rates tab and create the necessary tax accounts and tax rates.
4. Click on the check mark to accept the changes.

Yes, it can.
1. Go to System manager -> Edit -> Maintenance of parameters.
2. On the General Information tab select VAT as the Tax System.
3. Go to the Tax rates tab and create the necessary tax accounts and tax rates.
4. Click on the check mark to accept the changes.

14. How do I add a product in the Maintenance of products option? - Top

Click on the (+) sign on the navigator bar and then complete the fields. Once you have entered the product information click on the check mark to save your entries.

15. How do I change the default currency? - Top

1. Go to System manager -> Edit -> Maintenance of parameters.
2. On the General Information tab, change the currency symbol in the "currency symbol" field and choose the appropriate currency symbol alignment from the "currency alignment" box.
3. On the Accounts Payable tab enter the currency description (ex. dollars) and the fractions description (ex. cents).
4. Click on the check mark on the navigator bar to accept the changes.
5. Exit Executive and then re-start Executive.
